Backstreet’s Back: Charli XCX Covers ‘I Want It That Way’

Charli XCX is not embarrassed to admit she’s obsessed with the Backstreet Boys. In fact, she loves them so much she even tackled BSB’s 1999 monster pop hit, “I Want It That Way,” for the first time at a show in Chicago yesterday (May 21).

With help from a keyboard and a drum machine, Charli made the song all her own giving it the same synth-pop feel of her recently released full-length debut, True Romance. She slowed things down and took a darker approach to the love song, making lines like “But we are two worlds apart/Can’t reach to your heart” sound much more desperate and heartbroken than BSB ever did.

But the writer of Icona Pop’s “I Love It,” who described herself to Radio.com as “Wednesday Addams meets Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice meets Baby Spice,” kept things fun. She whispered lines of the chorus, handled the five-part harmony all on her own, and even threw in a little giggle before launching into Nick Carter’s epic solo. She then ended her rendition with a very sincere shout-out, “Big up to the Backstreet Boys.”

Rihanna’s ‘Styled To Rock’ Inches Closer Toward U.S. Premiere

Rihanna is importing her U.K. reality TV show to the U.S., in conjunction with the Style Network. The show’s first cycle aired abroad but for the second season, Rihanna’s American fans can join in on the fashion fun.

Styled To Rock is a Project Runway-esque show produced by Rihanna, where a group of contestants create original looks. The U.K. series featured a chance for the winner to outfit Rihanna in concert, but no clear prize has been attached to the U.S. show yet.

The reality competition also offers its contestant mentors. Pharrell has signed on for the U.S. version, along with Victoria’s Secret model/designer Erin Wasson.

Beauty/Wellness Wednesday: Memorial Day Holiday Safety Tips!

The Memorial Day holiday weekend is the unofficial start to the summer season accompanied by some fun and festive activities!

Whether you are planning to grill a burger or two and camp in front of your television for a sitcom marathon, hit the beach with the family or simply relax in a hammock while you opt to exclude the rest of the world, there are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to safety.

Check out these safety tips for that perfect Memorial Day holiday weekend!

FOOD SAFETY
1. Be sure meats are properly refrigerated before you cook and consume them. Your ground round for those perfect burgers should not be left out in the hot sun. Your meats should be properly cooled before cooked.

2. Speaking of cooking, take the time to cook your meats thoroughly. I found this out the hard way when I bought a grill. I was so excited to have my new grill that I only “slapped my steak” on there for seconds… you cannot cook a steak in a matter of seconds… I’m just saying.

3. If you make a food that requires refrigeration afterward, then be sure to refrigerate it. Potato salad, cole slaw and deviled eggs all need to be in the fridge if they are not being consumed. If they are eaten warm, then that “rumble in the jungle” will take place in your stomach and you will be in serious trouble.

FIRE AND GRILL SAFETY
1. OK… so here is my first tip: If you have no idea how to grill food and you are an expert at just eating grilled food, please leave grilling to someone who knows how to grill.

2. When you use your grill, make sure you use a grill brush to clean it thoroughly. Older “grill debris” on it can really make for a mess as well as a fire hazard.

3. Finally, please make sure you are using your grill in an open area. Be as far away from folks, other non grilled food and structures as you can.

WATER SAFETY
1. I will be the first to admit… I have already purchased my “spirits” for the weekend. However, I do not plan on operating my paddle boat with cocktail in hand. Please… if you are going to operate a watercraft this weekend, leave the alcohol at home. Enjoy your “buzz” on dry land and in the safety of a structure.

2. Wear a life jacket. Sure you cannot see that sexy two-piece, but I would rather have your gorgeous eyes on my blogs next week as opposed to you being in a hospital room.

3. If you have no idea what you are doing when it comes to steering a boat or maneuvering a watercraft, please ask for help.

4. Never, Never, ever go swimming alone, especially in the dark.

SUN SAFETY
1. Leave it to me to fight the signs of aging. In my “arsenal of age-fighting tools”, I have SPF 50. I use it on my face and body. You should use SPF on your gorgeous body too. I am waiting for the day that they make SPF 200. There’s a real market for such!

2. Drink lots of water alongside that alcoholic beverage. I like to alternate between a glass of wine or a cocktail and a cup of water. Being in the hot sun and being involved in activities can dehydrate you. So reach for water and then that beverage of choice.

DRIVING/TRAVEL SAFETY
1. OK… so drinking and driving… it is a HUGE NO! I would imagine that where you live, police will have more of a presence this weekend and they are looking for those drivers that are on the roads who are drinking and driving. Enjoy that alcohol, but PLEASE… DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE!

2. Wear that seat belt! Sure you may be sober but you have to be on the lookout for others. Do you need another reason to wear your seat belt? OK, it’s the law. Boom.

3. Here is a great tip I learned from my friend with the three kids: Know where your nearest emergency room is. You may not need it, but just in case you do, it is there and you know the route to get there.

HCSO Urges Safety On Waters, Land Over Memorial Day Weekend

Officials with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office are reminding those that choose to engage in water sports and activities in pools, lakes and other public bodies of water over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, to practice safety, vigilance and common sense.

They are also expressing a “zero tolerance” or drinking and driving or driving while under the influence of substances or chemicals. Those who are found in violation of such laws will be arrested expediently.

“In the wake of the death of HCSO Sgt. Dwayne Polk in a crash caused by a drunken driver this past weekend, Sheriff Garcia will be joined by HCSO deputies, troopers of the Texas Highway Patrol and other area law enforcement agencies, to remind the public that irresponsibility will not be tolerated,” stated officials with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. “Drunken drivers and boaters, as well as those who commit other traffic violations, will be arrested.”

Officials with the HCSO believe that with safe practices implemented, residents of Harris County can enjoy the Memorial Day holiday weekend without being arrested or having emergency workers come to assist.

They encourage fun but also encourage vigilance and common sense coupled with that fun.

Maroon 5 Releases Paint-Drenched ‘Love Somebody’ Video

On Tuesday (May 21) night, Maroon 5 released a video for their single “Love Somebody” that uses the inverse of green screen technology. Directed by Rich Lee (Eminem, will.i.am), the video utilizes an effect that causes band member’s body parts to show up as they are covered in a thick, paint-like substance.

Adam Levine manages to make messy sexy and is seen rubbing his hands, full of paint naturally, over the body of a female model.

The song, co-written by Levine, Nathaniel Motte of 3OH!3, Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic and producer Noel Zancanella (Demi Lovato, B.o.B.) is the fourth single off the band’s 2012 Overexposed LP.

HOT Show Diet Update Day 2. Who Dropped Out?

We have been on diets now since Monday, well PK and I have been on diets, but Ivan has NOT even started his yet because it doesn’t “agree” with his body. We need your help…help us find the diet that will actually work for Ivan.

I am doing the Advocare 24 day challenge, PK is juicing and Ivan was supposed to be doing the lemonade diet but he has NEVER started.

I have exhausted all of my possibilities with him. I have tried supportive asking him to run with me, I have tried strict, not stopping for ice cream but nothing has worked. So we had to ask the hard question, does he wanna lose weight. Simple answer, “no”. He wants to the weight to just fall off with no effort and because the ladies love him, he doesn’t want to do anything.

So Ivan is out.

PK and I are still working on ours.

If you were to win the lottery, would you still work or be out middle fingers in the air? What if it was for ONE million? It’s the decision a woman in Missouri just made after selling HERSELF the winning lottery ticket. Her plan by the way is to continue on… as the gas station cashier.

Lot’s of people late to work yesterday after Police were involved in a two hour long, high speed chase… with a GOAT. No kidding, apparently the goat got onto the Pulaski Skyway in New Jersey, which people use to get to the Holland Tunnel into New York City. Great end to the story too as the goat who was on the run after breaking free from a slaughterhouse bound truck, is now chillin at a rescue farm.

A 22 year old chick in Pennsylvania just took a plea deal with a three year diversion program instead of prison time for attempting to smuggle drugs into the U.S. Samantha was busted while crossing the border, when a drug dog started sniffing her “area”. Boarder Patrol also discovered a text which read, quote, “I’m smuggling cocaine and heroin in my coochie.”

Have you ever heard of “Morton’s toe?”… it’s when your second toe is longer than your big toe. About 20% of the world have the condition, including a model in England who STOLE a credit card and used it to pay for a $7,500 TOE surgery. She’s in trial now, could be facing prison time… but her toes? Looking good.

New study out of France discovered men are more likely to hit on a woman if she’s got a LOWER BACK TATTOO. For the study, they had 11 different attractive women lay out on a beach in a bikini. Sometimes they had a temporary tattoo on their lower back… sometimes they didn’t. And the result: men were more than TWICE as likely to approach a woman with a lower back tattoo. Researchers also interviewed 440 men in their 20s for the study and found that they believe women with lower back tattoos are more likely to go out with them… and more likely to have popcorn on the first date… which made them all MORE ATTRACTIVE.

And we end with my favorite story of the day. It’s about a wanted criminal and the police officer that was trying to catch him. Last week, in an effort to track him down, one officer decided to post a mugshot of him on Facebook, and the guy commented on it with, quote, “Catch me if you can.” And he did, then posted a reply- “Caught you. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. Go directly to jail.”
