If you listen top the show you know I went off on Ryan for lying on a National stage and embarrassing, not only himself, but his country and “exaggerating” what happened to him and, in my opinion, out right lying!
However, the details are still coming out and to be honest, I don’t know if we will ever know what happened.
Do I believe he should be punished? Yes. Do I believe he was wrong? Absolutely. Do I believe he should be banned from the Olympics? No.
I know that’s what you’re thinking as you read this. Why if he did all of this. If you believe he is guilty do you think he should be able to compete. I believe that because I believe a precedent was set. I don’t think it would be fair.
Michael Phelps got two DUI’s. A a person who has lost of a friend to DUI, it’s severe and the person you end up killing is usually NOT you. It is someone else who wasn’t drinking at all. I was furious with Phelps at the time but he owned it, and he was suspended after his SECOND offense to six months.
That is where I think the precedent was set.
If we are going to give Michael Phelps a six month suspension, which I think he deserved and that is for a second DUI. Then I think being drunk in public, lying (exaggerating) whatever you wanna call it. Ryan should face a similar punishment.
Phelps was lucky that his bad decision was NOT on the National stage and maybe if it had happened during the games it would have been different, I don’t know. All I do know is that I like to be fair and want the punishment to fit the crime and if they are saying that six month suspension for DUI, 2 DUI’s is appropriate. Than something similar should fall on Lochte’s plate.
This in no way takes away takes away my disappointment in the way he represented our country. However, we all make mistakes, some bigger than others and that punishment for those mistakes should be fair, without emotion.
