Singer Carly Rae Jepsen has declined an invitation to perform at the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree due to the organization’s current exclusion of gays.

The “Call Me Maybe” singer used her Twitter page as the social media vehicle to announce her cancellation of her performance:

The event is held once every four years and draws more than 45,000 people.

Rock band Train also echoed Jepsen’s sentiments, denouncing the organization’s exclusion of gays. They further warned that they were unaware of the organization’s policy before agreeing to perform and that the organization must now make “the right decision.”

A petition on Change.org called for Jepsen and Train to step down from the concert; the petition received more than 65,000 signatures. GLAAD reportedly also showed support for the petition.

The Boy Scouts of America have come under scrutiny for its ban on gay members. Last month, the organization was expected to make a decision on the controversial, 100-year-old policy.

That decision however was deferred. The BSA’s National Executive Board reportedly stated that they need “… time for a more deliberate review of its membership policy” due to “the complexity of this issue.” A decision is now not expected until later this year.

Boy Scouts of America director of public relations Deron Smith stated that the organization respects the decisions of Jepsen and Train: “We appreciate everyone’s right to express an opinion and remain focused on delivering a great Jamboree program for our Scouts,” Smith said in a statement.
