Auto racing driver Danica Patrick and her husband are reportedly divorcing after seven years of marriage and Patrick took to her Facebook page to announce her split from husband Paul Hospenthal on Tuesday.
On her Facebook page Patrick wrote of her split from her husband: “I am sad to inform my fans that after seven years, Paul and I have decided amicably end our marriage,” she said. “This isn’t easy for either of us, but mutually it has come to this. He has been an important person and friend in my life and that’s how we will remain moving forward.”
Patrick and Hospenthal met when Hospenthal treated Patrick for a a non-racing injury. The two were married in 2005. Hospenthal who is 17 years Patrick’s senior, is a physical therapist.
Patrick who just completed her first full season in NASCAR, drove the full Nationwide schedule and 10 Sprint Cup Series races after leaving IndyCar. On Monday, Patrick won the Nationwide Series’ most popular driver award, which is an award voted for by fans.
She also finished 10th in the 2012 Nationwide Series points standings driving for JR Motorsports, which was the best finish ever by a woman in any NASCAR series. Patrick was recently named the NASCAR Nationwide Series Most Popular Driver.
