Fans anticipating Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange album received a treat on Tuesday (July 10) morning. The left field R&B singer’s major label debut hit iTunes 12:30am, a full week before the project’s original release date.
An announcement for the album date change was made during Ocean’s taped performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night where he performed the haunting track “Bed Religion.”
Ocean has commandeered the news cycle since July 4, when he opened up about his sexuality via his Tumblr page. Everyone from Beyonce to Russell Simmons have applauded Ocean’s move to detail his feelings for a man.

Now, the crooner is letting his music do the talking. Backed by Late Night’s house band the Roots and a breathtaking string section, a somber Ocean delivered the stirring words, “It’s a…it’s a bad religion/To be in love with someone who can never love you.”
It was the first national television appearance for the vocalist and songwriter. Ocean’s Def Jam release follows his acclaimed 2011 mixtape Nostalgia, Ultra. The work was made available online during a time when the singer was experiencing frustration over his label’s handling of his project.
While Channel Orange has hit the net, it will not be released nationally in stores until July 17. —Keith Murphy, CBS Local
